Message modern ECU's (post Z32) had black box technology where an officer can get a warrant for the ECU and it would be able to tell them if you had been bad... Obviously, it could be flashed. My friend said that his mustang had it. An Accord clipped him on the highway and he spun out and amazingly avoided hitting any walls. He wasn't speeding when he got hit, however, he had been earlier in the trip. He flashed his ECU before the cops arrived. The insurance considered it totaled (just chipped paint on the rear bumper, but the car was ricetastic, so I can see why the insurance didn't want to pay for a car that had been abused like that on a regular basis). He ended up selling the car for more than he paid for it 3 years prior to some young kid.
I haven't read up on this nor do I really care cause it doesn't pertain to the Z32. I'll do some research and get back to you on it though.
